About Us |
Tec Diving Utila is the technical diving facility of Deep Blue Divers and is also PADI 5 Star Instructor Development Center. We offer experienced technical divers and those wishing to start their technical diving experience the opportunity to dive the deep waters around the Caribbean island of Utila, using the latest Dive Rite equipment and DSAT Tec Rec educational courses. We provide all mixed gases and are Rebreather friendly.
Technical diving around the island of Utila consists of multiple Deep Walls, as we are situated on the edge of the continental shelf, along with numerous Sea Mounts ranging from 10m/33’ to 60m/200’ and deeper. The water temperatures are usually 26-30 C / 80-90 F with great visibility and there are usually no significant currents on most of the dive sites. The deep waters around Utila are virtually unexplored and many different locations are being researched ready for diving.
Technical courses are taught using DSAT Tec Rec training programs which will give you the necessary knowledge, skills, practice and opportunity to dive our great sites well outside the recreational range. Add to this the chance to join us on exploration dives to previously unvisited sites as part of the challenge.
We provide courses and programs accommodating the novice or experienced technical diver. Courses are conducted from Deep Blue Divers shop in the main town of Utila or from our private resort depending on class sizes and accommodation preferences. Our Technical Instructors
Phil Phelan is Deep Blue's DSAT Instructor and is responsible for all of our technical training programs.
Phil is originally from Australia and became a Padi Open Water Diver in 1981. He has worked primarily in the Asia Pacific region, where six years ago, he owned and managed a dive centre in Vietnam. After he had reached his goal there, which was to get the store to a 5 star IDC centre, he moved on to Thailand and completed his technical instructor training and become a course director.

Our Facilities
Deep Blue Divers is located in the heart of Utila's small port town of East Harbour. Courses can be conducted from the shop in town or from our resort location. Both facilities are are air conditioned and lessons are given using the latest multimedia 'Microsoft PowerPoint' presentations. Our TEC facility has access to the internet, a reference library and course materials. Our training sites range from shallow protected clear water sites to impressive coral walls and sea mounts preparing you for many different types of diving experiences.
